Technician - Waveform

Level: IC2

Reporting To: Team Lead - Ink and Materials

Department: R&D

Location: Huntingdon


Purpose of Role:

The primary purpose of this role is to use established processes to develop and optimise waveforms for customer inks and applications.  Work must be carried out diligently in accordance with best practice to produce quality data on a tight timeline. 

Secondary purposes are to provide waveform development support for R&D activities during New Product Development (NPD) projects and Operations activities for production.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to: Team Lead – Inks & Materials.
  • Line management responsibility: none.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Operate relevant equipment and software (Drop-watcher, Ink Supply Systems etc) in order to develop and optimise waveforms.
  • Gather test data on waveform development and validation activities and present findings to the test requestor.
  • Develop and implement new test equipment and processes.
  • Write Ink Test Reports and Ink User Guidelines.
  • Contribute to development of documentation for department e.g. SOP’s.
  • Training of new and current staff, where appropriate
  • Provide customer support when required.
  • Process improvement and adherence to H&S standards and operating procedures.

Key challenges:

  • Developing a core understanding of the fundamental operating principals of inkjet, drive electronics, ink systems and printing practices.
  • Managing time and balancing priorities, sometimes conflicting.
  • Being able to deal with problems rationally and methodically.
  • Generating high quality output; waveform and documentation, in a tight timescale.
  • Setting up work with the most appropriate hardware for the application.
  • Over time, building an in depth understanding of waveform development and ink characteristics.

  • Methodical approach, demonstrating attention to detail.

  • Ability to follow defined processes.

Experience of:

  • A good grounding in Maths and Physics – ideally to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • A good command of English.
  • Experience of following instructions and guidance.
  • Computer literate. Microsoft Office/Excel.
  • Experience of product verification and validation (ideal but not essential).
