Shift Supervisor

Purpose of Role


A Production Supervisor ensures the smooth running of processes on a production floor. Their duties include
overseeing the management of resource with overall responsibility of driving performance management,
including routine production activities, troubleshooting and solving issues that arise on the production floor
whilst ensuring a safe and clean production workspace.


Scale

  • Direct impact of performance of volume.
  • Direct reports of up to 4 with indirect responsibility of up to 40
  • Employment based in Huntingdon.


Freedom to make decisions

  • Ownership to make decisions within their peer group.
  • Ownership to make changes to how we do things today.


Complexity

  • Ability for agile working to respond to evolving demands.
  • Work across multiple areas of manufacturing that may be out of direct responsibility.
  • Balance operational demands with the need for longer term planning and thinking


Planning horizon

  • 1-3 months regarding operational planning.
  • Annual cycle for development activities.

Key Accountabilities
On a typical day you’ll be expected to:

  •  Create and execute the daily production schedule.
  • Plan and coordinate the resources, raw materials, and staff to ensure production is carried out in a smooth
    and effective way.
  • Take the lead in managing, motivating, and directing the production workforce.
  • In conjunction with the management team, monitor and review the team capability, ensuring all staff are
    clearly focused on their key objectives and are developed to maximise their potential.
  • Ensure enough staff are available to perform jobs to the required standard and staff are trained to
    commensurate with their work activity.
  • Liaise with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment is in working order and is maintained.
  • Facilitate communication within the Production department to ensure relevant information is shared in a
    timely manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments across the business to drive efficiency within manufacturing.
  • Update and analyse daily KPI metrics and report any deviations from the target. Help complete an action
    plan and investigate a root cause of any deviation appropriately.
  • Challenge and review processes and procedures, exploring continuous improvement techniques to reduce
    cost whilst maintaining quality and safety.
  • Complete audit programs to ensure all standard procedures are being adhered to at all times and any nonconformances are investigated and closed out.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications:

  • Strong Leadership experience of inspiring and motivating employees to achieve their best.
  • Experience of building positive relationships with employees which fosters a supportive work environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of addressing performance issues promptly and fairly.
  • Experience of developing the team through talent management and succession planning.
  • Hands on experience within a manufacturing environment in order to make good robust decisions.
  • Planning of a manufacturing line.
  • Good time management, capable of meeting deadlines while being thorough and flexible.
  • Problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience of working in a manufacturing/clean room environment is desirable as is knowledge of print-head assembly, test processes and electromechanical assembly.
