15 August 2008
15 August 2008 – The production-proven, robust Xaar 760 printhead technology continues to operate successfully in digital printing applications, as demonstrated in Sun Chemical’s SolarJet™ printer, to be exhibited during Labelexpo Americas (9-11th September, Chicago). Designed for color and monochromatic label printing, the SolarJet™ will be demonstrated on booth 6123.
Introduced at Labelexpo Europe 2007, the SolarJet™ is Sun Chemical’s latest generation UV inkjet printer designed specifically for the growing short-run, narrow-web label market. The SolarJet™, launched at Labelexpo Americas 2008, boasts even better image quality and enhanced ease of operation. Built in partnership with Imaging Technology International (iTi), SolarJet™ allows printers and converters to produce shorter print runs (40,000 labels or fewer) quickly, cost effectively and without sacrificing quality. This is increasingly relevant to the pharmaceutical, health and beauty, industrial, electronics and FMCG markets, where printed products are updated frequently, and run lengths need to be shorter to reduce waste.
SolarJet™ is equipped with Xaar 760 printheads, which provide a visual resolution of 900 x 900 dpi. Sun Chemical has used its unrivalled expertise in the ink industry to develop its new SunJet™ pigmented UV inks, which have been designed specifically to optimize performance and deliver reliable, high-quality print on a range of substrates. The press can print at a speed of up to 80 linear feet per minute and is designed to fit seamlessly into conventional workflows.
The versatile Xaar 760 printhead can operate in greyscale or binary mode, with a diverse range of inks. Based on ’XaarDOT’ ™, Xaar’s Drop Optimization Technology, the Xaar 760 printhead delivers a choice of binary or dynamic variable drop sizes, ranging from 8pl to 40pl. Each of the 760 nozzles is controlled independently to create a printed result with exceptionally smooth gradation and tonal range – ideal for high quality graphics, packaging and traditional print applications. The Xaar 760 is an exceptional choice for industrial speed applications such as, primary and secondary packaging, indoor graphics and a wide range of industrial applications.
“We appreciate the support we have received from Xaar in optimizing the print and performance of its 760 printheads for our new SolarDot™ ink set,” comments Jeff Wettersten, Director, Digital Print Solutions, Sun Chemical. “The 760 delivers a proven combination of superb image quality with its greyscale technology, coupled with proven printhead reliability. The performance and flexibility features gained through the optimization work will enable converters a broader participation in the labels market on a wider variety of substrates.”
